NVAC To Offer EMT Course

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NVAC) will host an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) course this fall.

Students must be at least age 16 by the completion of the course. Classes will run Tuesday and Thursday evenings,  September 15 through December 22, from 6 to 10 pm, plus two Saturdays per month, for a total of approximately 170 hours.

The course will be held at Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Headquarters, 6 Washington Square in the Fairfield Hills complex.

This is a State of Connecticut approved training course for EMT certification. The course includes classroom lectures, practical training, CPR certification, emergency room observation, patient assessment for injury and illness, treatment of medical conditions and injury related events, lifting, moving techniques, medical documentation and emergency medical services operations.

Upon successful completion of the course,  students will eligible to sit for the State of Connecticut written and practical exams. 

Cost of course is $750, which includes textbook, supplies, CPR certification, and fee for the practical exam.

A preregistration event was held on Saturday, August 22, and one is also set for Saturday, August 29, from 3:30 to 5 pm; at Newtown Volunteer Ambulance headquarters. 

Two early registration dates have been scheduled for an EMT course being offered this fall by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
