âThere are just seven weeks left,â commented Elephantâs Trunk manager Greg Baecker, who was one of hundreds that were casting long shadows across the field during the early morning this past Sunday, October 28.

NEW MILFORD, CONN. â With hours to go before the light of dawn cracks the ridge in front of The Elephantâs Trunk Flea Market, sellers begin a ritual of adding their vehicles to a meandering line that awaits the opening of the highly anticipated weekly Sundays-only market.
Show manager Greg Baecker and crew meet the vendors early, but seemingly the 5:45 am start is never early enough for the crowd of buyers that anxiously awaits the dealers arrival on the field. As the sun finally shows itself, buyers, casting long shadows, dart around the field uncovering treasures, just as they have for the past 31 years.
This is a ritual that plays out from May through December on the field adjacent to Route 7, which can accommodate 300 vendors during the prime season. November and December are somewhat slower, although diehard buyers and sellers are there until the bitter end. âWe have seven Sundays left,â commented Baecker, âbar an early snow that stays on the ground.â
The market is scheduled to remain open through December 16, weather permitting. For additional information www.etflea.com.
