NEW YORK CITY — As the barren outlines of winter emerge, The Marbella Gallery turns to an exhibition of life and nature as depicted by many gifted artists of Nineteenth Century America. The exhibition opens on December 11 and will be on view through February 22.

The gallery is mounting an exhibition of “Paintings for the Winter” from its own inventory of artists, who, at the turn of the last century, achieved immense popularity for their personal, distinctive versions of nature.

These artists portrayed America in a more innocent time, and have increasingly been coming under scrutiny by scholars and collectors who recognize their position in the context of the history of American art.

Included in the exhibition are paintings by George Inness, Robert Hallowell, J. Francis Murphy, A.H. Wyant, Eliot Clark, Rachel Hartley, Samuel Rothbort, Samuel Brecher, Tsar, George W. Nicholson and many others.

The paintings reflect the heroic time, the drama and the worship of nature which characterizes the Romantic Period. Many paintings were specially selected and are in the affordable range, giving new collectors a chance to live with inspiring art in their homes.

The Marbella is at 28 East 72nd Street. It is open Tuesday through Friday, 11 am to 5:30 pm, and by special appointment. For more information, 212-288-7809.
