MUSEUM OF MODERN ART WILL PRESENT ERNIE GEHR’S ‘OCEAN AVENUE SEPT. 26

AVV 8-3 #708262

NEW YORK CITY — “Ocean Avenue: A Media Installation,” by Ernie Gehr will be on view at The Museum of Modern Art in The Yoshiko and Akio Morita Gallery, second floor, September 26–November 26.

This installation of moving images, shot on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco by Gehr (American, b 1941), is designed to make the images merge and contrast with each other as Gehr questions and plays with memory, movement, time, space and the idea of interactivity.

Four large moving images, each approximately 11 minutes in length, are projected side-by-side on the south wall of the media gallery, with each image projected from a different DVD for continual and synchronized replay.

This installation coincides with Gehr’s installation “A Panorama of the Moving Image” in the Roy and Niuta Titus 1 Lobby Gallery, a multiscreen installation that highlights a selection of moving images from the world of magic lantern shows — painted or printed images on glass, that Gehr has been collecting since the 1970s.

The exhibit has been organized by Jytte Jensen, curator, department of film, The Museum of Modern Art.

The Museum of Modern Art is at 11 West 53rd Street. For information, www.moma.org or 212-708-9400.
