SALEM, MASS. — Tradewinds Antiques & Auctions is presenting its 31st all-cane live auction Saturday, September 29, at Waterfront Hotel. The sale will be a celebration of 15 years of doing all-cane auctions.

Highlights include a Seventeenth Century English ebony and silver pique ($12/18,000), a silver Tiffany cane with shagreen pattern ($3/4 ,000), a carved whalebone cane with silver mounts ($9/13,000), a convertible pipe/cane with case ($4/6,000), and a whale ivory snake on whalebone ($5/7,000).

Other offerings include an early English telescope cane by Spencer, Browning & Rust ($4/6,000), a ivory pepperbox curio with Eiffel Tower commemoration ($15/25,000), and a rare patented doctor’s stethoscope and medicine cane ($6/8,000).

Also offered will be a Seventeenth Century ivory pique pomander ($6/8,000), a General George B. McClellan American folk art cane ($4,5/6,500), a Eighteenth Century French pique cane ($5/7,000), a rare Tiffany watch cane ($7/9,000), a scarce Remington large dog head percussion gun curio ($9/13,000), and an English pique dated 1687 ($5,5/7,500).

The sale will be preceded on September 28, at 6:30 pm, by a private auction preview and the company’s seventh preauction lecture. Larry Mattson, PhD, businessman and collector from California, will give a talk, “The World of Ceramic Canes.”

The lecture, is free but attendees need to RSVP.

Preview begins Saturday, September 29, from 9 to 10:45 am. The sale is at 11 am. The hotel is at 225 Derby Street.
