Garden Club Planning Flower Show
SOUTHBURY â In September, Southbury Garden Club will host A Standard Flower Show, âCelebrating Southbury â Itâs A Wonderful Town.â
The show will be at Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Road, on Friday, September 14, from 2 to 5 pm, and Saturday, September 15, from 9:30 am to 2 pm.
A Standard Flower Show includes design and horticulture entries as well as special exhibits. The floral designs will focus on various aspects of Southbury. Designs, inspired by paintings from the Heritage Village Brush and Pencil Club, will include âPicnics in Settlers Park,â âBooks from the New Library,â âUnderwater Designs Reminiscent Of The Bent of the River, and âThe 3 Râs,â honoring Bullet Hill School.
The Horticulture entries will include âFlowers that Linger in Southburyâ (perennials), âIn Southbury Only Brieflyâ (annuals), âSmall Southbury Gardensâ (plants in containers), âA Rose is a Rose,â âBuried Treasureâ (bulbs, corms and tubers), âA Farming Communityâ (vegetables), and âA Tree Cityâ (trees and shrubs).
Local residents are encouraged to enter the Horticulture display, and entries will be accepted on Thursday between 1 and 4 pm and Friday between 8:30 and 9:45 am. For horticulture entry inquiries, call Sue Breen at 264-3896.
Educational exhibits will include Pressed Flowers and The Herb Garden at the Bent of the River.
