GREENWICH, CONN. — The Greenwich Antiques Society will present a lecture,“The New Hellenistic and Roman Galleries at The Metropolitan Museum of Art,” at The Bruce Museum on Monday, October 1, at 1:15 pm. The speaker will be Dr Christopher Lightfoot, assistant curator, Department of Greek and Roman Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tea will follow.

In April, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City opened its new Greek and Roman Galleries. This 15-year project involved the installation of thousands of classical objects from the Hellenistic period, Southern Italy, Etruria and Rome created between 900 BCE and the early Fourth Century BCE.

Lightfoot, will, with his wide knowledge of ancient sites, highlight this collection. For the project, he co-authored the Metropolitan publication Greek Art from Prehistoric to Classical, designed to provide educators and students with a grounding in Greek culture of the period.

In addition to lecturing on Greek and Roman art at the Metropolitan and on Egyptian and Roman antiquities at City University of New York, Lightfoot has authored numerous works on Roman glass and is director of excavations at the Roman and Byzantine site of Amorium in Turkey. He is the former assistant director at the British Institute of Archaeology in Ankara, Turkey.

The museum is at 1 Museum Drive. For reservations, call 203-531-9757 or 203-869-9531; nonmember guest fee is $15.
