FOR 11/30

GALLERY PAULE ANGLIM TONY LABAT DEC. 22

ak/gs set 11/21 #720237

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. — Gallery Paule Anglim is showing recent works by Tony Labat, the Cuban-born video and performance artist. The spectrum of works included are photography, video, drawing, collage, painting and digital prints and is on view through December 22.

Featured will be two video works, Day Labor: Mapping the Outside (Fat Chance Bruce Nauman) 2006 and Mata Crush 2006; both were shown at the recent Seville Biennial and Havana Biennial, respectively.

Since the early 1980s, Labat has been a pioneer of video installations — his work often identifies the “outsider,” whether the artist or the immigrant. He makes frequent commentary on displacement and marginalization.

Labat received his BFA and MFA degrees from the San Francisco Art Institute and teaches performance and video there. His video works have been exhibited internationally and are found in the collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Kunstmuseum, Bern, The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Long Beach Museum of Art.

Gallery Paule Anglim is at 14 Geary Street. For information, 415-433-2710 or www.gallerypauleanglim.com.
