ALBANY COUNTY HISTORICAL ASSOC. SEMINAR ON ALBANY SILVER SEPT. 29 & 30 w/1 cut
ak/gs set 9/10 #711531
ALBANY, N.Y. â Many local people admire, and some have collected, fine silver flat and hollowware manufactured and sold in Albany from the Seventeenth Century to the present. Albany had a surprisingly large and important silver manufacturing industry which lasted into the Twentieth Century.
The Albany County Historical Association (ACHA) presented a popular introductory lecture on Albany silver last spring, and will present a more in-depth seminar on that topic on Saturday and Sunday, September 29â30.
Trustee and silver expert Walter R. Wheeler will present information on the industry, craftsmen, significance and the lore of Albany silver. The seminar at the Ten Broeck Mansion will feature a field trip to view selections from the fine Albany silver collection at the Albany Institute of History and Art. Norman Rice, director emeritus of the institute, author of the now-rare book Albany Silver, and authority on early Albany silver, will host the field trip. Other seminar topics will include identifying and caring for silver, and its historical function and use.
Attendees will have an opportunity to personally inspect fine silver pieces from an extensive private collection and may bring their own pieces to the seminar, which will be held September 29, noon to 4 pm and September 30, 1 to 4 pm.
Cost for the two-day seminar is $95 (includes bag lunch on Saturday. A vegetarian options is available for the bag lunch). Attendance limited; register at 518-436-9826. All proceeds will be used to support the continued restoration of the Ten Broeck Mansion, which is at 9 Ten Broeck Place.
