48th Annual Ukrainian Festival Returning Sunday
On Sunday, August 25, at 11 am, the 48th annual Ukrainian Festival will begin at Paproski’s Castle Hill Farm Pumpkin Patch, 25 Sugar Lane (off Sugar Street/Route 302). The outdoor event will start with the Celebration of the Ukrainian Catholic Divine Liturgy by Father Ivan Mazuryk.
At 12:30 pm, Ukrainian and picnic-style food, such as varennyky (potato and cheese dumplings), holubchi (stuffed cabbage), borscht (beet soup), and grilled liver and onion sandwiches will be served.
At 2 pm, entertainment by Ukrainian performers such as the Kalynonka Ukrainian Dance Group of Stamford, singers Olga Olichka, Lybomir Zgurskyi, and Victor Sydir will begin.
There will be Ukrainian vendors selling Ukrainian arts and crafts including embroidered blouses, shirts, jewelry, T-shirts, children’s books, flags, stickers, and more. Additional attractions include hayrides, petting zoo, volleyball and soccer tournaments.
The event, sponsored by the Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church of Bridgeport, is rain or shine, and is open to the public. Admission is $5 per adult and offers free parking. Readers are encouraged to bring chairs. A portion of the festival proceeds will be donated to Aid to Ukraine.
