Christina Scott "Chris" Mackie, 86, formerly of Newtown, died August 21 at the Center for Comfort Care & Healing at the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Danbury, after complications with congestive heart failure. She was born on August 19, 1931, in Edinburgh, Scotland, and was the daughter of Mary Luisa Aitken Scott and George Scott.

Her children and their spouses, Muriel Wielebinski and her fiance Vinny Burdo of Sandy Hook; Linda and Ed Kliczewski of Trumbull; and Gordon and Jennifer Mackie of Somers, N.Y., survive her. She is also survived by her six grandchildren - Scott Kliczewski, Matthew Wielebinski, Nicole Wielebinski, Adam Wielebinski, Ellie Rinaldi, and Jack Mackie - who cherished the time they spent with her. Her life will also be forever celebrated by her brother, Ronnie Scott, and his family in Woonona, Australia; along with her nieces and nephews in Scotland and South Africa.

Her husband, Eric; her two sisters and their spouses, Ada and David Spence and Maisie and Archie Neill, predeceased her.

Mrs Mackie had a happy life with her siblings before immigrating to America in 1957. She married Eric Mackie, also of Edinburgh, on September 27, 1958, in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she lived with beloved family friends, the Carboys.

She worked for many years as an office manager at Maryknoll in Ossining, N.Y., where she made many lifelong friends. She left Ossining with Eric in 2014 and moved to Newtown to be closer to her children.

She was well known for her humor, love of family, and her pride in becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States after being in this country for many years. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and recently spent a week at the Cape with the entire family where she enjoyed going to the beach, playing games, and doing puzzles.

Services will be private and for immediate family only.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Comfort & Healing at the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Danbury, where Mrs Mackie and her family were well taken care of during her last week of life, regionalhospicect.org.
