Helmeted tots on skateboards, sunglass bespectacled counselors, and campers bursting with energy congregated at the pavilion at Dickinson Park, Thursday, August 5, in anticipation of the annual year-end talent show. A friendly competition between the campers at Treadwell and Dickinson Parks, the kid-created songs, dances, and performances are a yearly tradition marking the end of the seven, one-week-long sessions for campers from age 4 to 11.

“You never know what you’ll see here,” said Parks and Recreation Assistant Director RoseAnn Reggiano. “It’s different every year, what the kids come up with. It’s no holds barred,” she laughed.

Kicking off the hour of entertainment for friends and family, staff and current campers from Dickinson Day Camp rocked the crowd with a rousing rendition of Queen classic, “We Will Rock You.” Keeping the beat on bucket drums, clapping hands, stomping feet, and with a few air guitar riffs, the campers and counselors set the mood for the rest of the program.

“Honey I’m Good,” performed by an ensemble of 7- and 8-year-old girls received a good round of applause, following on the heels of a choreographed basketball routine by the 7- and 8-year-old boys from Dickinson Day Camp.

Treadwell campers were not to be outdone, throwing in a couple of crazy dance routines, and a boys-gone-wild group performance to Bruno Max’s “Uptown Funk.” Treadwell Day Camp girls, ages 9 to 11, flounced across the floor for a fashion show not too far off the mark from the runways of Paris.

Some of the summer’s smallest campers chose to show off their artistic talents. Holding up a collage of drawings, counselors announced each picture, as the smiling artists gathered around.

A tender and brief performance by a young guitarist and soloist encouraged the entire audience to join them in singing “Happy Birthday” to their counselor, Leah.

“Bye, Bye, Bye,” was the theme song of the 9- through 11-year-old boys from Treadwell Park, wrapping up the talent show and a summer of fun at day camp.

“We had good registration this year, and a good response from the parents,“ said Ms Reggiano. “It has been really, really wonderful.”

Nine, 10- and 11-year-old boys from Treadwell Day Camp and their counselors close out the year-end talent show, performing to NSync’s “Bye, Bye, Bye.” The song was particularly appropriate, as this is the year many of the boys age out of the town’s day camps.
