STAMP COLLECTING FESTIVALS TO KICK OFF SEPT. 9 IN EAST WINDSOR, CONN.

avv/gs set 8/23 #710148

EAST WINDSOR, CONN. — The September 9 Connecticut Stamp Collecting Festival “Season Opener” will be in the East Windsor Best Western Colonial Inn. Show hours are 10 am to 4 pm; parking and admission are free.

Stimulated by the classic beauty of Nineteenth Century stamps as well as colorful new issues with popular current themes, the next generation of adult collectors is having a big impact on the hobby. Bringing a passion and energy, they have started to garner awards in exhibits and have demonstrated that they are willing to compete for the scarcer pieces.

With the growth in collecting by topic and the improved artwork seen in modern stamps, women in particular are being seen in larger numbers, as well as in leadership positions in what was once a male-dominated hobby. Also helping is the movement of shows such as the Connecticut Festival’s to “collector-friendly” hotel sites.

Now in its 36th year, the Connecticut Festival is America’s longest running monthly stamp show, and has introduced thousands of collectors to the possibilities in collecting stamps and covers. New collectors can get answers to questions about getting off to a successful start. Albums and other accessories will be on display and participating dealers will provide collectors with advice on buying, selling or caring for a collection.

More than 30 dealer tables will be filled with material at the September 9 show, offering stamps, covers, collections and wholesale lots “from just about every country there is or ever was.” Material ranges from stampless covers to the newest topical issues from around the world and from a few pennies to thousands of dollars per stamp.
