How would you describe your occupation? I work at Edmond Town Hall. I run the concessions booth, and sometimes tickets. I also stage manage for Newtown Stage Co. During the rehearsal process of The Little Mermaid, Jr, I did a lot of behind-the-scenes work scheduling, keeping up with the blocking, and writing everything down. During the show, I was backstage calling all the cues to make sure the show ran smoothly. I loved working a lot with the kids, because that’s what I want to do with speech pathology in the future.
Who is in your family? My mom, my dad, my sister Emily, my brother Zach, and my brother Will. I’m the youngest, and it’s fun because I learn so much from my siblings’ experiences of high school and college. I feel like I have a lot more information going into different stages of my life.
Do you have any pets? I have a dog named Izzy.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved here when I was two, so 16 years.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like theater, so any chance I get I’m going to be participating in a show or going to see a show. I love binge-watching, and I also got into reading a lot this summer.
Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? My sister. She’s always been the easiest person to talk to. I can say just about anything, ask her just about anything and I feel like she cares about giving me advice. We’ve been able to learn a lot from each other.
If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? My grandmother on my dad’s side. She was just the coolest person I could ever think of. Even at her funeral my dad was telling all these stories about her, and I remember thinking “I had no idea she did that!” She did all these really cool things and she worked with cool people — She seemed like she was ahead of her time. She was very involved in women’s empowerment, and I think that’s very inspiring. I would like to talk to her about what that was like in that time period.
Who is your favorite musical artist? Sara Bareilles. I love all of her music; she’s awesome.
What is the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever been given? My math teacher Ms Hyman said, “the thief of joy is a comparison.” I was always comparing myself because the environment of my class was very competitive, and she was always saying “stop comparing yourself to others, it’s what’s making you unhappy.” That was a nice reminder, especially during my last year of high school.
What is something you can’t live without? Probably music.
What is your proudest accomplishment? Completing all the shows I’ve been in. I’ve been fortunate enough to do all these shows with a really good group of close friends. There’s a feeling of pride we all feel that we made something together. Not even to show, just that we made this piece of art. It’s very moving, and very exciting.
What’s your favorite travel destination? Wellfleet, Cape Cod. We have a family house that’s my great uncle’s where we go every year. We love going to the beach.
What is the best part of Newtown? We have a sense of community in Newtown a lot of places don’t have. Certainly it’s not perfect, but I meet a lot of amazing people daily, and I don’t know if other people in other places are fortunate enough to have that.
