Newtown Friends of Music (NFM) is anticipating with excitement the start of the 38th consecutive season of bringing “exquisite music, superbly performed” to the stage of Edmond Town Hall.

All performances, following tradition, take place on a Sunday afternoon at 3, and are followed by a reception with the artists when guests are free to speak with the musicians.

The 2015-16 season of six concerts will start on September 27 with a performance by the Ying Quartet, who will bring guest pianist Elinor Freer to perform the Schumann Piano Quintet. Also on the program will be Schubert’s Rosamunde Quartet and a recent piece by the American composer Billy Childs, entitled “Awakening.”

For October 25, NFM has invited ATOS Piano Trio, who will be making their first appearance in town. The trio has proposed a program of music by the Czech composers Dvorak, Smetana and Suk. Piano trios have always been a favorite of Newtown audiences and make a most welcome use of the venerable Knabe Concert Grand Piano that Mary Hawley so generously provided for Edmond Town Hall.

On Sunday, November 22, Euclid Quartet, resident string quartet at Indiana University South Bend, will be performing the music of Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Wynton Marsalis.

NFM does not schedule concerts for the months of December and January.

On February 21, 2016, the season will continue with a return engagement of the pianist Diane Walsh.

Another highly anticipated newcomer to the series will be Horszowski Trio on March 20. Hailed by The New Yorker as “being destined for great things,” the trio derives its inspiration from the musician-ship, integrity and humanity of the late legendary pianist  Mieczyslaw Horszowksi (1892-1993).

Based in New York, the members of Horszowski Trio teach at Columbia University and the Longy School of Music at Bard College. They perform a repertoire spanning the traditional to the contemporary.

The final concert of the season will be performed on April 17, when Borealis Wind Quintet will entertain with music from the 19th, 20th and 21st Centuries, concluding Potpourri Fantastico based on Rossini’s Barber of Seville

Season tickets are $75 for an adults, and $65 for those ages 65 and above. Single tickets for one concert are $25 each. Children grades K-12 are free with a ticket-holding adult.
