Woman’s Club Unveils 2008 Christmas Ornament

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc, has unveiled the pewter ornament it will be selling this year. The two-sided design, the 21st annual offering in the club’s Christmas ornament series, features the front of Newtown Middle School.

Mary Antey and Lorraine VanderWende, co-chairmen of the club’s ornament committee, will offer the ornament for sale during the Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 1. The ladies will be set up in front of C.H. Booth Library. The ornaments are available for $10 each.

Also on parade day, Mrs Antey and Mrs VanderWende will have past editions of the club’s ornaments available for purchase, as well as copies of the club’s cookbook, Newtown Woman’s Club 40th Anniversary Cookbook. Previous ornaments sell for $10, as does the cookbook.

After the Labor Day Parade, the 2008 ornament will be sold at C.H. Booth Library, Drug Center Pharmacy, Edmond Town Hall, Image One, Joy’s Hallmark, Lexington Gardens, and The Newtown Bee.

This year’s ornament has once again been crafted by Woodbury Pewterers, Inc of Woodbury. The Woman’s Club has entrusted Woodbury Pewterers to create their ornament every year. A story about the image, written by Town Historian Dan Cruson, is included with each ornament.

Ornaments from previous years, which have included scenes of Newtown Meeting House, Edmond Town Hall, The Newtown Bee, Newtown General Store, the former Yankee Drover, and C.H. Booth Library, among others, are available at the library or by contacting Mary Antey, 426-9787, or Lorraine VanderWende, 426-4865.
