Openings For Community Musicians In NVCC Ensembles
 WATERBURY â The Music Department at Naugatuck Valley Community College has openings for new members to the following ensembles for the 2008-09 season:
NVCC College Choir
Rehearsals for the NVCC College Choir begin on Tuesday, September 2. The Choir rehearses on two simultaneous tracks and singers may attend either one: Monday from 7 to 10 pm or Tuesday and Thursday 11:20 am to 12:40 pm.
Choir can be taken for college credit or as a non-credit community member.Â
This year the choir will sing Handelâs Messiah and Bachâs Gloria in Excelsis with Waterbury Symphony Orchestra in November and the world premiere of Fortuneâs Bones, a dramatic new work by Ysaye Barnwell and Sweet Honey in the Rock, with the Symphony at the Palace Theater.
No solo is required to audition, but sight-reading ability is highly valued.

NVCC Concert Band
Rehearsals for the 2008-09 NVCC Concert Band, known as the Wind Ensemble of Western Connecticut, begin Tuesday, September 2, in Woodbury.
The 45-member band gives four concerts each year with a mix of classics, pops and marches and is looking for players of double reeds, french horn, baritone saxophone and low brass.
Band can be taken for college credit or as a non-credit community member.

NVCC Jazz Cats
The NVCC Jazz Cats will begin rehearsing from 5:30 to 6:50 pm on Wednesdays beginning September 3.
Under the direction of Joe Jacovino, the Jazz Cats play three to six shows per year and are well known in the community.
Players may join for college credit or as non-credit community members.
