Musical Instrument Consignment Organized
Musical Instrument Consignment Organized

Donna Tomasko, a self-described âband parent,â knows first hand about, well, second hand instruments.
âMy daughter Meghan [now 22] used to play the viola,â she said. âInstruments are expensive â especially if they are rented.â For years, she said, school administrators and parents have been trying to organize a process in which instruments can be consigned within the district, saving families money â and space.
âThe school used to hold a tag sale fundraiser and sold lots of instruments,â said Ms Tomasko. âThereâs obviously a need here.â
She recently began distributing letters to current and former Newtown High School band parents encouraging them to drop off old instruments at the home of Holly Tamarkin, a former band parent residing at 8 Skidmore Lane in Sandy Hook. After the instruments are accumulated, Ms Tomasko said a list of instrument names and prices will be circulated throughout the district. âIf you child is going to be a senior in high school or just going into fifth grade, they can benefit from this,â she said.
Drop-offs can be scheduled August 18â25. Please call Ms Tamarkin first at 270-9383. If the instruments are not sold, they can be picked back up after September 30. For more information, contact Donna Tomasko at 270-1596.
