Late Summer Mini Series For Danbury Opera

DANBURY — Danbury Opera announces a late summer mini-series  of programs of opera and musical theatre especially scheduled to appeal to seniors and youngsters as well as the general public. Artistic Director Joan Brainerd Noland explains that the company begins its 11th year of local opera with a “running start,” reaching out to all lovers of vocal music in the region, with “movie price admission.

“Last season’s planned tenth anniversary celebrations were curtailed due to a death in our immediate family, but we are happy to be able to return to music making,” Ms Noland continued. As in previous years these programs are partially funded by Danbury Cultural Commission.

Programming includes operative vignettes, arias and ensembles and lighter theatre music, “Butterflies & Elephants,” performed by a cast of professional singers, including some local debuts as well as Danbury Opera regulars, and surprise guest artist. All performances are at Danbury Music Centre, 256 Main Street.

The series will open with matinee performances on Wednesday, August 27, and Thursday, August 28.  Programs and singers for the two programs are varied.

Doors open at 4:30 for light refreshments, with performances beginning at 5 and completed by 7 pm. Suggested admission is $5.

The programs will culminate in a gala concert at 8 pm on Saturday, September 6, also at Danbury Music Centre. Suggested admission is $10 for the evening program. “After Dinner Opera” promises operatic selections and desserts in a fitting finale to the celebration.
