Good Job By The Newtown Police

Kudos to Police Chief Mike Kehoe and the officers of the Newtown Police Department for their quick reactions and concern for our safety during the power outage last Thursday, August 14.

While returning from Danbury that evening at approximately 6:30 pm, I found every signal-less traffic light in that town to be a hazardous situation with virtually everyone thinking they had the right-of-way, little regard for others, and no cops in sight. Traveling across Route 302 through Bethel the same scenario was witnessed.

I had to go to Monroe, so I traveled out some back roads and came out on Route 25 at the “Crossroads” (intersection of Toddy Hill). I was surprised to see a stop sign in the middle of the last major intersection in Newtown. Monroe had not taken the same precautions from what I saw in that town during my short travel there.

When returning through Newtown, I found stop signs at every intersection with a nonfunctioning traffic light.

I actually felt a sense of pride that Newtown, a town that I have spent 43 of my 46 years in, a town that I sometimes perceive as being lackadaisical (other times downright arrogant), was prepared, concerned, and ready to serve and protect it’s population and those traveling across our roads.

My hat is off to the chief and the Newtown Police Department for a job well done.
