*Fans of Irish music, hereâs some good news: First, EILEEN IVERS will be at Crowell Concert Hall, on the campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown, on September 12. Ivers will be playing the 441-seat on the Friday evening of a weekend-long event, the Wesleyan Celtic Routes Festival, which will also offer performances on Thursday by Mick Moloney with Jerry OâSullivan and Dana Lyn, and then performances on Saturday by 2in2 at 4 pm and then Liz Carroll, John Williams and Dean Magraw at 8.
Tickets for Iversâs show, which starts at 8, are $18 for adults, and $16 for senior citizens and students. Tickets for the other concerts are about the same. Call 860-685-3355 or send email to BoxOffice@Wesleyan.edu for details.
Workshops will also be part of the festival, including a fiddling workshop with Liz Carroll, a guitar workshop with Dean Magraw and a flute workshop with John Williams, all at 2 Saturday afternoon. An Irish Seisun, or jam session, led by P.V. OâDonnell will also take place, with anyone from the campus and community invited to join the fiddler for a free open event at Wesleyanâs World Music Hall. Use the phone number or email address above for details.
The second part of my good news this week is that The Bushnell has released its schedule for 2003-04 and on the Hartford venueâs calendar is a March 11 concert by the band. Tickets for the 8 pm show are on sale and range from $25 to $45 apiece. Contact the Bushnell at 860-987-5900 or www.Bushnell.org.
*Just a reminder for you that Newtown-based MARY BETH SIPPIN AND GOLDRUSH has the closing concert tonight for this yearâs Brookfield Town Hall Summer Concert Series. Showtime is 6:30, the concert will run until about 9 pm, and thereâs no admission charge. The band performs âhigh energy acoustic country music.â The town hall is at 100 Pocono Road, just off Route 25.
*radio 104âs next Five Bands For Five Bucks show at The Webster Theater in Hartford is coming up on September 5 and will feature LESS THAN JAKE headlining, along with Reliant K, Yellowcard and Drunkinâ Beer Nuts on the bill. The fifth band is still being decided upon, apparently.
Until next week Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141.
