Stripp Selected To Serve On

National Legislative Committee

State Representative John E. Stripp, R-135th District, will play a key role in developing and shaping major policy issues as a member of a national legislative committee.

The National Conference of State Legislatures has named Rep Stripp to serve as a member of the NCSL’s Assembly on Federal Issues’ Commerce and Communications Committee.

“It’s an honor to represent the interests of state legislatures in the continuing debate over the changing relationship between the state and federal governments,” Rep Stripp said of the new appointment.

The Commerce and Communications Committee is one of nine standing committees of NCSL’s policymaking body, the Assembly on Federal Issues (AFI). The policies stress three themes: opposition to unfunded federal mandates; prevention of unnecessary preemption of state laws; and protection of state revenue sources. The AFI facilitates NCSL’s lobbying efforts by testifying before Congress and Administration officials on behalf of the nation’s state legislators.

NCSL has just completed an active year representing the interests of the states in Washington, D.C., including work on electronic signatures, clean air regulations, education block grants, fatherhood programs, federal gas tax, pension portability, and transportation appropriations.

NCSL is a bipartisan organization serving more than 7,000 legislators and 30,000 legislative staff from the nation’s 50 states, as well as its commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research and technical support on policy issues, monitors federal legislation, and actively works with Congress to protect states’ sovereignty.
