DANBURY â The Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Danbury will sponsor the NAMI family education course specifically for families of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness. The 12-week series of classes will start in Danbury on September 5, from 7 to 9:30 pm.
The course will cover information about schizophrenia, the effective disorders (bi-polar illness and major depression), obsessive compulsive and panic disorders. It encompasses such topics as information about medications; listening and communication techniques; problem solving skills; recovery and rehabilitation; and self-care around worry and stress.
The curriculum has been written by an experienced family member mental health professional and the course will be taught by AMI-Danbury family member volunteers who have taken intensive training as course instructors. Pre-registration is necessary as class is limited. Call 775-9179. There is no charge.
