Healing Wall Coming To Norwalk

NORWALK — The Healing Wall is coming to Veterans Park in Norwalk from Thursday, October 12, until Sunday, October 15.

The Healing Wall is a half-size replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. Comprised of 64 panels, it is 250 feet wide and 5 feet high. The names of 58,209 men and women who gave their lives in the service of their country during the Vietnam War are etched in aluminum. Visitors are welcome to visit around the clock throughout the four-day stay of the Healing Wall.

This event is sponsored by the City of Norwalk and American Legion Post 12. The Fairfield County Healing Wall Committee has been formed by representatives of veterans’ groups from throughout the region.

There will be three ceremonies. On opening day, Thursday, October 12, David Smith of Channel 12 will be the master of ceremonies and music will be provided by Norwalk and Brien McMahon High School Marching Bands, performing as one combined band. The Stamford High School Band will provide music for the “Tribute to America” ceremony on Saturday, October 14; Nancy Sinatra will make a special guest appearance. The Lumina String Quartet will perform at the closing ceremony on Sunday, October 15.

Fraternal, religious, veterans’, and civic organizations are planning to conduct small ceremonies which may include a prayer service or a wreath laying. To schedule such a ceremony, call 203/977-1776.
