Double Header At Ridgefield Library: Baseball Reading & Discussion

RIDGEFIELD — Fiction in the Flesh, a reading and discussion series at Ridgefield Library, will present “A Double Header,” featuring renowned author Robert Creamer and lecturer Perry Garner. The two hard-hitting speakers perform readings of baseball-related fiction and impromptu musings on baseball greats. The two men will be at the library on Friday, September 8.

Robert W. Creamer has been one of the most successful and acclaimed writers of American sports for many years. A senior writer for Sport Illustrated since its inception in 1954, Mr Creamer has also written numerous prize-winning books, most notably Babe: The Legend Comes To Life, which is widely acknowledged to be a standard bearer for modern sports biographies.

His partner in crime for the evening will be Perry Garner, who was the entertaining lecturer for the library’s recent spring program, “Happy Birthday Charlie Chaplin.” Mr Gartner wooed a full house with his recountings of Chaplin’s life and work before everyone grabbed a slice of cake and watched City Lights. For weeks to come, the library received requests for a command performance.

Mr Gartner is back to speak on another one of his favorite pastimes and most researched topics: the all-American game of baseball. He and Mr Creamer make for an enjoyable evening of amusing recitations, anecdotes and conversation about one of America’s favorite pastimes.

The free program will begin at 7:30 pm and all ages are invited. There will be a seventh-inning stretch and hot dogs and soft drinks will be served. Call the library’s circulation desk at 203/438-2282 for reservations.
