Evading Responsibility

Police report a two-vehicle accident in which the driver who caused the crash on Botsford Hill Road fled the scene at about 3:42 pm on August 12.

Police said that the unknown driver of a silver-colored BMW, which was possibly a 5-Series or 7-Series sedan from the early 2000s, was traveling eastward on Botsford Hill Road, near South Main Street, when the BMW swerved into the opposite lane and struck a blue 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan driven by a Southbury man. The Southbury man was not injured.

The BMW then left the scene, traveling eastward on Botsford Hill Road at high speed, police said. That BMW has possible damage to its left front corner, police said.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone who knows the BMW driver’s identity to contact Officer Maryhelen McCarthy at the police station at 203-426-5841.

I-84 DUI

State police report that motorist Luis Hernan Camas-Matute, 32, of Danbury was driving a vehicle westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 8:09 pm on August 11, when the vehicle went off the road and knocked over two traffic signs, after which it reentered the road. Camas-Matute was not injured.

State police charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, improper entry/exit at a limited access highway, and improper parking.

He was released on $1,000 bail for an August 21 court appearance.

Sedan Off Road

Motorist Marc Savarese, 19, of Trumbull was driving a 2012 Honda Accord sedan carrying two passengers northward near 151 South Main Street about 7:35 pm on August 5, when the auto drove off the right road shoulder and struck some curbing and guardcabling, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Savarese an infraction for making a restricted turn, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gas Station

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the new Wheels Citgo gas station/convenience store at 67 Church Hill Road at about 11:15 pm on August 12.

Police said the low-speed collision involved motorist Randall Weinstein, 52, of Red Hook, N.Y., who was driving a 2014 Subaru Outback, and motorist Dean Demers, 20, of 13 Pole Bridge Road, who was driving a 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

DUI Charge

Police said that at about 5:30 pm on August 15, they received a report concerning an erratic motorist driving near the intersection of South Main Street and Ethan Allen Road, so they went to that area to investigate.

Police said they then learned that the motorist who was reported as driving erratically had been involved in an auto accident near 228 South Main Street, where police then headed. There were no injuries, according to police.

Police said they charged motorist Matthew Politi, 22, of Easton with driving under the influence, following too closely, and possession of a controlled substance. Politi was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

House Burglary

Police received a report about burglary/larceny having occurred at home on Philo Curtis Road near Treadwell Park so they went there to investigate on the morning of August 16.

Police report that sometime between 11:30 pm on August 15 and 6 am on August 16, someone stole unspecified items from the house and removed them via a window, which had been left unlocked.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer William Crone at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Saab Vs Pole

About 11:50 pm on August 15, motorist Cynthia Todd, 30, of Southbury was driving a 2000 Saab 9/5 sedan westward near 90 Riverside Road amid wet conditions, when the auto crossed the road’s centerline and struck a utility pole positioned along the eastbound road shoulder, police said.

The accident location is near Riverside Road’s intersection with Timber Mill Road.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Todd for traveling too fast for conditions.

Ford Vs Pole

Motorist Henry Edmonds, 64, of 9 Misty Vale Road was driving a 2002 Ford Escort sedan eastward near 20 Pole Bridge about 11:45 pm on August 14, when the auto went off the right road shoulder and struck a utility pole, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Edmonds to Danbury Hospital to be checked, police said.

Police said they gave Edmonds a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sand Hill Plaza

Police said that at about 7:19 pm on August 15, motorist Julia Radilo, 17, of 26 Turkey Hill Road, who was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass coupe, was pulling into a parking space at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, when the Oldsmobile struck a parked unoccupied 2013 Honda Accord sedan.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement. 

Violations

Police said they spotted motorist Luis Carlos Cepeda, 27 of Danbury driving a 2014 Nissan Altima 50 miles per hour in a posted 30-mph zone on Wasserman Way near Trades Lane about 1 pm on August 16, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Cepeda with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police released him on $1,500 bail for an August 25 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Highway Crash

Motorist Erik Redline, 22, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus sedan on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, about 9:15 am on August 13, was slowing for traffic conditions when the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Brandie Fuhrman, 33, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina, state police said.

Fuhrman was transported to Danbury Hospital on a complaint of pain, state police said.

Fuhrman was charged with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, driving with a suspended license, and failure to have automotive insurance, state police said. She is scheduled to appear in court on August 26.

Interstate Collision

Amid heavy traffic during wet, rainy conditions at about 8:12 am on August 11 on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, motorist Naomi Alphonso, 22, of Danbury, who was diving a 2011 Mini Cooper, struck the rear end of a 2013 Nissan Juke SUV driven by Walter Pitt, 36, of Waterbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Alphonso received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Subaru Vs Deer

Motorist Brenda Silva, 41, of Bethel, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy westward on Interstate 84, about 150 yards west of the Exit 11 off-ramp, at about 11:50 pm on August 10, swerved to avoid striking a deer, but then struck some guardcabling, state police said.

Silva was not injured. State police took no enforcement.

Exit Ramp

State police report that on the night of August 12, motorist Lisa Ross, 53, of Monroe stopped her vehicle at the end of Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp and was then struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Kaitlyn Rzasa, 22, of New Fairfield. There were no injuries. State police took no enforcement.

Vehicular Charges

Police said that they received a 911 call from a motorist reporting that an erratic driver was traveling northward on Poverty Hollow Road in a gray Chevrolet Cobalt at about 6 pm on August 17.

Police said they located the motorist in question on Boggs Hill Road, near Mt Nebo Road, and stopped him to investigate.

Police report they charged motorist Evan Brooks, 32, of 71 Main Street with driving with a suspended license and with driving with a suspended registration.

Following arrest processing, police released Brooks from custody on $1,000 bail for arraignment on September 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Waterbury Man

Police report that they responded to a domestic disturbance that occurred late on the night of August 17 at a residence on Lazybrook Road.

After handling that situation, police said they learned that a man who was involved in that incident, Nicholas Szustecki, 28, of Waterbury had an outstanding arrest warrant pending against him.

Thus, police charged him with sixth-degree larceny in connection with a past incident. Szustecki was scheduled for a court appearance.

Forced Entry

Police report that sometime between 10:45 pm on August 17 and 7 am on August 18, someone smashed in the rear window of a vehicle parked at a residence near Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road. The person then stole a pocketbook from the vehicle, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Steven Borges at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Police urge that residents remove all valuable items from vehicles before locking up those vehicles when they will be unattended.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a call from a person about 7:17 pm on August 19, reporting a possible intoxicated driver in a commercial parking lot at 49 South Main Street, so they responded there to investigate.

Police said they then charged motorist Lauren Jones, 26, of 14 Deerfield Drive with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing, police released Jones on $500 bail for a September 3 court appearance.

Motorist Jesus Ortiz, 20, of Milford was driving this 2013 Nissan Sentra sedan on Mt Pleasant Road (Route 6) at about 2:08 am on August 19, when the vehicle went off the road, traveled a considerable distance and then came to rest in front of Taunton Wine & Liquor, a package store at 147 Mt Pleasant Road. The driver left the scene of the accident before police arrived, police said. Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company firefighters went to the accident to control automotive fluid spills. Police said the accident is under investigation.
Botsford Fire Rescue volunteer firefighters responded just before 7 pm on Saturday, August 15, to a one-vehicle rollover accident on the unpaved Washbrook Road. While traveling on the narrow, curving road, this Jeep-brand SUV flipped over, landing on its driver’s side. All people who were riding in the SUV were out of the Jeep uninjured before firefighters arrived.
