Open Call To Artists For Danbury Fair Mall Art Exhibit

DANBURY — The Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance (HVCA) and the Danbury Fair mall have issued a public call to artists for a regional art exhibit. “Business Supports the Arts (BSA)” will be a two-week art show at the mall, an arts collaborative involving businesses, the arts community, and the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Western CT State University.

The exhibit will be in the mall’s center court October 1-15. Interested artists should visit HVCulturalArts.org, click on the Call To Artists button near the top of the page, and then click on the word Prospectus.

Artists may electronically submit up to three pieces for consideration. Nearly all mediums will be accepted, but only two-dimensional work will be included in the show (no sculpture). All works must be original, must be available for purchase, and the price is to include the frame.

The size of each finished work may not exceed four feet tall, three feet wide, and 25 pounds. All artwork must be wired – no claw tooth – and framed, or it will not be accepted during receiving. Also, a 20 percent commission of the sale price will be charged to the artist for any sales from the show before, during or after the exhibit.

There is a $25 entrance fee to be applied to HVCA membership; no fee for current HVCA members.

Drop off will be Wednesday, September 30, 9 am-noon, and pick-up will be Thursday, October 15, 9-10 pm. There is no storage at the mall or through HVCA. Unclaimed artwork will become the property of HVCA.

WestConn Professor of Art Abe Echevarria, a noted illustrator, educator and artist, will serve as juror for the event. Five Best of Show Awards at $100 each will be presented at the opening reception on October 2.

Deadline for entries is August 31. For more information call 798-0760 or send email to info@HVCulturalArts.org.
