Gymnasts Go Astral

BETHEL — The summer camp program at Gymnastics Revolution ended with a performance by all of the program’s participants on August 24.

“We had a fun show on the stage, the kid’s ‘Outer Space’ routines were choreographed to ‘Rocket Man,’ ‘Men in Black,’ and other fun songs, and all 40 of our athletes had a role in the show,” said Brian Bakalar, the owner and director of the Bethel-based sports fitness center. “The parents laughed along with the kids, and smiles were abundant.”

Friday’s event was a culminating show for Gymnastics Revolution’s summer camp program, which had two subsets of kids in it. One of those subsets was a competitive team that included Newtown residents Samantha Gilbert, Sophia Andrew, Katherine Reeves, Jessica Stolfi, Jackie Sgobbo, Lyllie McBride, Madeline Albee, and Alexa Reilly.

The show was choreographed and directed by one of the senior team members and Newtown resident, 15-year old Laura Reeves. Laura is a Level 10 gymnast, and a captain in the studio’s program.

The show was called “Out of this World,” and it showcased the theme for the August 11–14 recreational camp, Outer Space. It included dance numbers, some acting, and a large tumbling demonstration, all within the Outer Space theme.
