C.H. Booth Library Hosts An Authorâs Visit With An Extra-Special Guest
By Eliza Hallabeck
One visitor at C.H. Booth Library in the afternoon on Thursday, August 13, could not go inside to hear author and resident Scarlett Lewis read from her book Roseâs Foal, because she may not have been able to fit in the door.
Calamity Jane is one of the horses from Wild Rose Farm, where Rose, a dapple gray draft horse, inspired Ms Lewis to write Roseâs Foal, lived.
Before visiting children had the opportunity to meet Calamity Jane, Ms Lewis read from her book in the libraryâs meeting room.
Ms Lewisâs book is illustrated by photos she took of Rose and her son, Little Chief.
According to the bookâs description the story, it âtells the tale of Rose and Little Chief, a mother horse and her newborn son, as he begins his first days in the world â growing stronger from his motherâs milk, and growing wiser from her love and the wisdom that she shares with him.â
Ms Lewis also had photographs from her book changed into coloring pages by her brother, for the children to color after she read her book to them.
Copies of her book were available for purchase at the library on Thursday, and Ms Lewis signed them for those who asked.
Once the groups of children were ready to head outside, Ms Lewis introduced them to Calamity Jane, the special visitor for the event.
Roseâs Foal is also available for purchase on Amazon.com and in bookstores for $13.99.
