To Vote On The Charter

To the Editor:

The Charter Revision Commission completed its review of the town’s charter and submitted its final report to the Legislative Council on August 9, 2001. Since the Legislative Council failed to agree to forward all the commission’s recommendations to the voters for their acceptance or rejection, the former members of the Charter Revision Commission have elected to petition. In our petition, we request that you – the voters of Newtown – have the right to decide on the commission’s recommendation. These changes are too important to be decided upon by a divided Legislative Council.

So, when you see members of the commission and our supporters around town asking for signatures, please sign. We just want to ensure that you have the right to vote yes or no on the commission’s report.

William Sheluck, Jr

36 Greenleaf Farms Road, Newtown   August 21, 2001
