Military Museum Summerfest 2001

DANBURY — In addition to its already-scheduled Open Turret Day on Saturday, August 25, Military Museum of Southern New England will be hosting its Military Museum Summerfest 2001 this Saturday as well.

The event will run from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for seniors and children ages 6 to 18, and free for children under 6.

From 10 to 3, there will be a presentation of the latest fashion line from Enlisted Inc., a women’s clothing line dedicated to the military look; US Army recruiters will answer questions about the Army as a career choice; and American Red Cross volunteers will offer information on the various services they provide as well as their role in the time of a disaster.

During the full run of the summerfest, the museum’s new exhibits — the current installation of the “G.I. Joe: The Boy Next Door” series and “The Evolution of the Jeep” — will both be open for visitors. The current “G.I. Joe” features the wartime experiences of Louis J. Faraci, a member of Company B of the 296th Combat Engineer BN. The Jeep exhibit is a display of jeeps dating from World War II to the present including a unique folding jeep, The Harrier.

During open turret days, visitors are allowed to climb inside museum’s armored military vehicles. Those planning to enter the vehicles must wear soft-soled shoes.

The museum, at 125 Park Avenue, can be contacted by calling 790-9277.
