Eichler’s Cove Beach is closed for Friday, August 20.

Newtown Parks and Recreation, which manages the Town-owned swimming area on Old Bridge Road, announced the closure late afternoon Thursday, August 19.

No explanation was given for the temporary closure.

On Friday, Parks & Rec also issued its end of summer hours for the beach, and the swimming pool at Treadwell Park.

Beginning Monday, August 23, both locations will be open weekdays, 4-7 pm; and weekends, 9 am-7 pm. That schedule will be in effect until Sunday, September 5.

For Labor Day Monday, September 6, the cove and pool are scheduled to be open 11 am-7 pm. They will then close for the season.

Parks & Rec does note that "due to a lifeguard shortage there may be some change to the beach swimming schedule Monday to Friday." Residents should contact the department, 203-270-4340, to check the schedule. The Newtown Bee will also post updates as they are received.
