Health Care Reform Presentation Slated

SOUTHBURY — Are you wondering about insuring your child after he or she graduates from college, or when you will get the $250 check to cover Medicare’s Donut Hole? Are you concerned about a “pre-existing condition” or the inexorable rise of insurance premiums for your household or small business?

What will be the likely impact of reform on long-term care options, Medicare, hospitals, clinics, medical and dental practices?

Will access to health care and medicine actually improve and for whom? These and other questions will be addressed at a regional forum open to the public on Thursday evening, August 26, from 6:30 to 8, at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North.

A panel of experts will summarize and delineate major provisions of the SustiNet (state) Plan enacted in Hartford last year, as well as the federal reform bill passed this past spring in Washington, D.C. Jill Zorn from the Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut, Dr Sandi Carbonari-Welsh, a pediatrician at St Mary’s Children’s and Family Health Center, and Eric Freedman will be the featured panelists.

The relationship between the state and federal legislation will be addressed, as well as the implications, opportunities, and challenges facing everyone in the areas of health care coverage, cost, and quality.

There will be ample time provided for questions and discussion. The program is free, but reservations are requested due to limited seating.

This event is co-sponsored by Brownstein Jewish Family Service and United Action Connecticut (UACT), a faith-based community organization. To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz at 203-267-3177, extension 105, or email dhorowitz@jfed.net.
