Always Have Hope:

Family Sports Event For Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Always Have Hope, one of the first teams to sign up for this fall’s Newtown Light the Night event, will host a Family Sports Extravaganza on Sunday, August 29, from noon to 4 pm, at Newtown Youth Academy.

Requested donation is $10 per person, which allows guests to participate in five events: a Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby, Football Target Toss, Hole In One Golf Putt, Foul Shot Basketball Shootout, and Soccer Target Kick-off.

There will also be free use of an inflatable obstacle course for kids, raffles and prizes (with prizes awarded every hour for kids and adults).

All proceeds will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Newtown Youth Academy is at 4 Primrose Street, on the Fairfield Hills campus. Registration is available but not required (walk-ins will be welcomed the day of the event). Additional information is available from Ivy Pearson at jibdp@charter.net or 203-426-1002.

Light The Night 2010

The Newtown Light the Night Fundraiser will take place at Newtown Youth Academy on Saturday, September 25.  People can register at LightTheNight.org/ct or by contacting Lu Ann Leclerc at 203-665-1415 or LuAnnLeclerc@lls.org.

This year will be the first official full Newtown Light the Night event. The evening walk celebrates and commemorates lives touched by blood cancers. Survivors carry illuminated white balloons while supporters carry red ones. Gold balloons remember those who lost their battle.

The walk is a non-competitive walk; there are no fitness requirements. Light the Night events are held in over 240 communities throughout the United States.

The event is family friendly. There will be face painting as well as other activities.

Residents are invited to help in any number of ways, from cash or in-kind sponsorship or starting or joining a team. There are, according to organizer Ginny Chion, a number of Newtown teams already forming.

Funds raised will go to research and patient care.
