New Hours & Admission Schedule

At State’s Oldest Museum

HARTFORD — A new schedule and pricing for individual admission to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art will take effect September 1.

The new hours are Wednesday through Friday, 11 am to 5 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Tuesdays are open to group tours with reserved bookings. On the first Thursday of each month, the museum will be open until 8 pm.

The museum will be closed on Mondays (except for Martin Luther King, Jr Day) and on Tuesdays. The museum will also still close for holiday observances of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Independence Day, and will close at 3 pm on the eve of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.

The new individual admission rates are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors ages 62 and over. Admission remains at $5 for students age 13 through college (with student ID), free for children ages 12 and under.

After 5 pm on the first Thursday of each month, starting in October, admission will be $5 for all visitors.

Exceptions are during the museum’s two annual fundraisers, “Festival of Trees and Traditions” and “Fine Art and Flowers,” when admission is $13 for adults, $11 for seniors, $8 for students, $3 for children ages 2 through 12, and $3 for museum and corporate members.

The special exhibition surcharge of $6 has been eliminated. Also, there will be four admission-free days a year, once each season.

Wadsworth Atheneum continues to provide public libraries throughout Connecticut with the popular “Art Pass,” good for free admission to the museum by a group of four.

Established in 1842, Wadsworth Atheneum is America’s oldest public art museum. It charged 25 cents admission when it opened on July 31, 1844.
