Dr Hines To Receive Heart of Gold Award

DANBURY — Ann Hines, MD, a pediatrician and founder of the Hanahoe Memorial Children’s Clinic in Danbury, will receive this year’s Heart of Gold Award at the Danbury Hospital Development Fund’s 11th Annual A Day To Make A Difference fundraising auction on Friday, September 10. The event will take place at the Ethan Allen Hotel beginning at 6 pm; proceeds will benefit Danbury Hospital’s Pediatric Sub-specialty programs.

Named in memory of her parents, Cyril and Mary Hanahoe, The Hanahoe Memorial Children’s Clinic was founded in 1974 to provide free medical care to children of families who cannot afford medical insurance. The clinic is at 205 Main Street in Danbury.

Dr Hines was born in Philadelphia, Penn., and graduated from Rosemont College, Rosemont, Penn., with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She earned a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Medial School in 1969, and served three years of residency training at St Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Lincoln Hospital in South Bronx, N.Y.

 Dr Hines moved to Danbury in September 1972 when her husband, Paul, was hired as a chemistry professor at Western Connecticut State University. Paul and Ann Hines are the parents of four children, Mary Beth, Paul, Ann Marie, and Daniel.

“The Danbury Hospital Development Fund’s Heart of Gold Award was introduced last year to pay tribute to an individual or individuals that work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of children,” said Susan Kania, director of the Hospital’s Development Fund.

 “Dr Hines will receive this year’s award for her more than 30 years of selfless and devoted medical care to children in our community,” said Ms Kania. Dr Hines has been honored by numerous organizations including the Danbury Regional Commission on Childcare Rights and Abuse, The Fairfield County Medical Association, and the Connecticut Federation of Business & Professional Women, and was the recipient of the 1984 Ladies Home Journal American Heroine Award.

A Day To Make A Difference fundraising auction also features cocktails and hearty hors d’oeuvres starting at 6, a silent auction from 6 to 7:45, followed by the “Heart of Gold” Award presentation. A live auction immediately follows the award presentation at 8. A donation of $75 per person is required to attend, and patron, sponsor, and benefactor sponsorships also are available.
