Breach of Peace
Police report they observed Patrick J. Farrell, 23, of 5 Tower Road creating a public disturbance and using profanity in the parking lot of Newtown Shopping Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street at about 9 pm August 15, so they arrested him on a charge of breach of peace.
After processing the case, police released Farrell on a promise to appear August 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
DUI Charge
Police said they stopped motorist Anthony Chambery, 39, of 48 Maltbie Road at about 9:38 pm August 12, near the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive because the vehicle that he was driving matched the description of an auto that was reported to be stolen.
Police said it turned out that the vehicle driven by Chambery was not stolen, but that he appeared to be driving under the influence of alcohol, so they investigated.
Chambery failed sobriety testing and was charged with driving under the influence, police said. Police released him on $100 bail for an August 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Sign Damage
At about 11 pm on August 11, police said they arrested a boy under age 16 on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook after it was learned that he had used spray paint to deface street signs on nearby Pearl Street.
The youth resisted arrest and was subdued after a brief struggle, police said. Police charged him with first degree criminal mischief, which involves more than $1,500 of property damage, and also charged him with interfering with police.
Because the youth is under age 16, state law shields his identity from public disclosure. After processing the arrest, police released the boy for an August 30 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.
Multiple Charges
Newtown police report that on August 13 East Haven police charged Donald Dobitas, 23, of New Haven on a warrant on five criminal charges in connection with incidents last year in Newtown.
Dobitas was charged with first degree failure to appear in court, fifth degree larceny, sixth degree larceny, and two counts of second degree forgery, police said.
The charges stem from Dobitasâ allegedly cashing forged checks in Newtown in August 2003, police said. Police held Dobitas on $15,000 bail for an August 16 court appearance.
Rear-Ender
A two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road near St Rose Church about 5:45 pm August 11, police said.
Eastbound motorist Maureen Ehret, 62, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan, stopped for traffic, after which eastbound motorist Jose Alfredo Vasquez-Martinez, 22, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1989 Ford ranger pickup truck, applied his brakes, but went into a skid on the wet road and struck the Dodge from behind, police said. Ehret received a minor injury, police said.
Police issued Vasquez-Martinez an infraction ticket for following too closely and for driving with a learnerâs permit without the presence of an instructor.
Berm Collision
Motorist David Godfrey, 19, of Westport was driving a 1988 Acura Legend southward on South Main Street about 9 am August 15, and then slowed for traffic, which had slowed for a squirrel in the road, police said.
Godfrey then turned to the right to avoid a collision, but struck a berm near 134 South Main Street, police said. Godfrey was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Off The Road
Motorist Micheale Records, 17, of Monroe, who was driving a 1990 Chevrolet about 7 pm August 11, stopped on westbound High Bridge Road and then turned left onto southbound Botsford Hill Road, after which the auto slid off the road and went down an embankment, police said.
Records was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making an improper turn.
Pond Brook Deer
Motorist Jonathan Buck, 28, of 23-A Pond Brook Road was driving a 1989 Ford Ranger pickup truck westward on Pond Brook Road about 9:40 am July 27, when a deer ran onto the road, police said.
Buck swerved the truck to the left to avoid the animal, but lost control of the vehicle, went down an embankment and rolled over onto the driverâs side, police report. The truck came to rest about 15 feet below the level of the road.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Buck to Danbury Hospital for a complaint of pain, police said. The accident is under investigation, according to police.
Dual Deer Collision
Motorist Mark Signore, 26, of Wallingford, who was driving a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird southward near 134 South Main Street about 10:50 pm August 9, collided with a deer, police said.
The deer bounced off the Pontiac and then collided with a northbound 2003 Jaguar sedan driven by Michael Mallon, 46, of Fairfield, police said.
Neither driver was injured. Police took no enforcement.
Castle Hill Crash
Motorist Bret McEvoy, 23, of 51 Taunton Lake Road, who was driving a 1993 Nissan Sentra on Castle Hill Road about 7 pm August 11, applied the brakes to negotiate a curve near King Street, but slid into the opposite lane and collided with oncoming motorist Maria Rivieccio, 47, of 5 Fox Run Lane, who was driving a 1996 Ford sport-utility vehicle, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported McEvoy to Danbury Hospital on a report of chest pain, police said. Rivieccio, who reported a head injury, refused treatment at the scene, police said.
Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident. Police issued McEvoy an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right on a curve.
Probation Violations
On August 16, police charged Miriam Renda, 42, of Meriden on a warrant with two counts of violation of probation. The charges stem from a 2002 case, police said. Renda was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges August 16 in Danbury Superior Court.
Pedestrian On Interstate
State police report they spotted pedestrian Anna Mourning, 26, of Danbury walking into traffic on Interstate 84, near Exit 9 in Hawleyville, about 8 pm August 14.
State police said they apprehended Mourning and charged her with reckless use of the highway by a pedestrian and with breach of peace.
Mourning was not injured in the incident, but was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for evaluation, state police said. Mourning was released from state police custody on $2,500 bail for an August 30 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
SUV On Ramp
Motorist Lori Ann Thompson, 40, of 50 Cobblers Mill Road was traveling on Interstate 84âs Exit 11 ramp about 8:50 am August 16, when she lost control of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder she was driving while negotiating a curve, state police said.
Thompson was not injured in the mishap. State police said they warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.
South Main Accident
Motorist Ian Murray, 17, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee northward on South Main Street, near Park Lane, about 12:17 pm August 16, stopped for a northbound noncontact vehicle that had stopped in front of Murray to make a left turn, police said.
Northbound motorist Manuel Quinones, 48, of Hartford, who was driving a 2001 Ford E-250 van, then struck the rear end of the Jeep, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Quinones a written warning for following too closely.
Mazda Into Brush
Motorist Allison Favreau, 20, of 7 Indian Hill Lane was driving a 2001 Mazda Protégé northward near 50 Great Quarter Road about 4 am August 18, when the vehicle went across the southbound lane, went off the southbound road shoulder and then entered some brush, becoming disabled there, police said.
Favreau was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
Juvenile Assault
Police said they issued a youth under age 16 a juvenile summons on August 18 on a charge of third degree assault for an incident that occurred at that youthâs home on August 3.
Police report that a group of juveniles had gathered at the home and were âfooling aroundâ when a misunderstanding arose and the accused youth placed a multibladed tool near the victimâs neck.
The victim then kicked the youth to get away, resulting in the victimâs right thumb being cut, police said.
The arrested juvenile is scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on August 30. The arrest stems from an ongoing investigation, police said. State law shields the identities of people under 16 who are charged with crimes.
Vandalism
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Brian Davis, 35, of Danbury turned himself over to them at the police station on the morning of August 19 and was charged with first degree criminal mischief.
Police said Davis allegedly destroyed building equipment owned by the victim of the crime. Police received the complaint in May. First degree criminal mischief is a felony involving more than $1,500 worth of property damage.
Police released Davis for a September 2 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
