A Playwright’s Wicked Tribute To Theater,

Hart’s ‘Sky’ Will Open August 27 In Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD — Opening August 27, Light Up The Sky is the latest theater piece being produced by Ridgefield Theater Barn.  Cabaret seating is an open invitation to audience members to bring their own “picnic meal and beverages” and enjoy a professional night of theater for only $18 ($15 for children and seniors).

A family-friendly show, Light Up The Sky will be in production weekends until September 25. Curtain is Friday and Saturday at 8, with matinees planned for Sundays, September 19 and 25, at 2 pm.

Written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, screenwriter, Tony-Award winning director, producer and performer Moss Hart, this inside look at theater people was a subject he knew and loved. It’s no accident that the audience has an opportunity to look at a “young, idealistic writer” and a “jaded disenchanted older one.”  It’s been speculated when he penned Light Up The Sky in 1948, Moss Hart was a little of both.

The play is Mr Hart’s wickedly comic valentine to the theater about a Broadway company on the opening night of an out-of-town tryout in Boston for a risky new play. Ridgefield Theater Barn’s production is being directed by Cathy Fitzpatrick Linder and produced by Melissa Power.

A highly experienced and extremely talented cast has been created, with Will Jeffries of Newtown playing the older of the two writers.  A resident of Newtown and a veteran of television, film and theatre, the 6-foot tall, blue-eyed actor has performed as a guest star in such shows as ER, The John Larroquette Show and Murphy Brown, and as a regular on Matlock.

In theater Mr Jeffries has played the Devil in Don Juan In Hell; JFK and Hoffa in Kennedy At Colonus; and as Ed alongside Harvey Fierstein in Torch Song Trilogy.

Light Up The Sky also features Tim Cronin, Carin Freiday, Jake Hall, Rosemary Howard, Louise Kaminer, Paul Losacco, John Pyron, Marie Rowe, Fred Tisch,  and Chris Van Jura.

The theater is on Halpin Lane in Ridgefield. For reservations, call Ridgefield Theater Barn’s box office at 203-431-9850.
