Rear-Ended In Traffic Jam
Newtown Police report Jean Griffin, 67, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Honda CR-V, was traveling eastbound on Mile Hill Road at 8:44 am July 26. She was traveling behind a 2019 Hyundai Tucson operated by Julie Daigle, 68, of Cape Coral, Fla. Both vehicles were stuck in stop and go traffic due to a prior vehicle incident. The Honda struck the rear end of the Hyundai.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No charges are mentioned in the report.
Swerved To Avoid Vehicle, Ended In Culvert
Newtown Police report Heather Lang, 27, of Stratford, operating a 2012 Nissan Altima, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 10:06 am July 30. Lang made a right turn, eastbound on Botsford Hill Road. A non-contact vehicle was traveling through the intersection at the same time, and Lang attempted to evade the vehicle, going off the eastbound shoulder of Botsford Hill Road, striking a speed limit sign and ending up in a culvert.
Lang was examined by Newtown EMS but did not need to go to the hospital. Her vehicle was towed.
Lang was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey traffic signals.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Roberto Martinez-Alvarenga, 39, of New Haven, operating a 2015 GMC Savana, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 6:36 pm August 1. He was traveling behind a 2011 Lexus RX operated by Lynne Flaum, 71, of Huntington. Flaum stopped for a vehicle making a left turn onto Pole Bridge Road, and the Savana rear-ended the Lexus.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
Martinez-Alvarenga was issued an infraction for following too close.
Evading Driver Arrested
Newtown Police report Jack Robinson, 19, of Bethel, operating a 2014 Subaru Forester, was traveling south on Main Street at 5:45 pm August 2. He was traveling behind a 2019 Audi Q7 operated by Birgit O’Connell, 59, of Tom’s River, N.J. O’Connell stopped for traffic and the Subaru rear-ended the Audi. Robinson then fled the scene, but was later located and arrested.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Robinson was charged with evading responsibility for property damage and following too closely.
Failure To Heed Stop Sign
Newtown Police report Robert Nardini, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2007 Jeep Patriot, was traveling eastbound on West Street and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Main Street at 7:45 pm August 4. Samantha Hall, 21, of New Milford, operating a 1998 Dodge Ram, was traveling northbound on Main Street when the Nardini pulled into the intersection. The Jeep struck the Dodge.
No injuries were reported. The Jeep was towed.
Nardini received an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
Flipped Vehicle
Newtown Police report Mackenzie Cashman, 21, of Carmel, N.Y., operating a 2017 Ford Escape, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 11:44 pm August 4. While attempting to negotiate a left hand turn, the vehicle left the roadway, hitting the embankment and rolled onto its roof.
Cashman was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation. The vehicle was towed.
Cashman received a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Evading Vehicle Sought
Newtown Police report a single car evading a motor vehicle incident occurred on Valley Field Road South during the overnight hours of August 3 into August 4, and was reported to police at 11:58 am August 4.
Police determined an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on Valley Field Road South. Upon approaching a left hand curve in the roadway, the vehicle traveled straight into a driveway and proceeded to drive over several portions of the lawn, causing damage to several grass covered areas and a flowering tree.
Police believe the vehicle suffered considerable front-end damage as several damaged parts were located on the scene. None of the parts were able to assist in determining make and model of the vehicle. There were no witnesses or security camera footage.
If found, the operator will be charged with evading responsibility for property damage, and failure to maintain the proper lane.

Evading Responsibility
Newtown Police report officers were dispatched to Berkshire Road for the report of a vehicle evading the scene of a motor vehicle incident at 6:49 am August 5. Upon investigation, officers determined that a vehicle traveling westbound on Berkshire Road struck a mailbox off the westbound shoulder of the roadway before continuing on.
Andrea Keller, 32, of New Milford, operating a 2015 Honda Civic, was located and issued a misdemeanor summons for operating with a suspended registration and evading responsibility.
She was given a court date of August 15 in Danbury Superior Court.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Two Charges
Newtown Police report Evan Streams, 33, of Fairfield, operating a 2005 Toyota Corolla, was traveling northbound on Swamp Road at 8:14 am August 7. The Toyota left the roadway and came to a stop in a small ditch.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Streams was issued an infraction for traveling too fast and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Mazda Hit Honda
Newtown Police report Simrah Ahmed, 25, of Danbury, operating a 2023 Mazda CX-5, was turning left from a stop sign from Mile Hill Road South onto Mile Hill Road at 4:14 pm August 8. Ethan Russell-Ward, 23, of Waterbury, operating a 2003 Honda Accord, was traveling eastbound on Mile Hill Road. When Ahmed pull onto Mile Hill Road, the Mazda collided with the Honda.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Ahmed was issued a verbal warning for failure to heed a stop sign.
Assault Charge
Newtown Police report Joseph Stoerzinger, 18, of Newtown, turned himself in at Newtown Police headquarters at 4:30 pm August 8 after learning of an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant originated from an assault investigation by Newtown officers in June and July. Stoerzinger was charged with third-degree assault.
He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of August 20 in Danbury Superior Court.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Frank Servidio, 79, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Toyota Prius, was traveling northbound on Taunton Lane at 5:44 pm August 8. Christopher Houser, 37, of New Fairfield, operating a 1996 Honda Accord, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road.
Servidio entered the travel lane on Mt Pleasant Road in front of Houser, causing a collision.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Servidio was issued a verbal warning for failure to heed a stop sign.
Jeep Hits BMW
Newtown Police report Jessica Caruso, 37, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road at 3:58 pm August 9. Sharon Bowman, 82, of Newtown, operating a 2016 BMW 228xi, was traveling eastbound on Hattertown Road. Caruso came to a stop at the intersection of Poverty Hollow Road and Hattertown Road as Bowman was stopped at its stop sign. Caruso entered the intersection and her vehicle struck the rear right of Bowman’s vehicle, which was proceeding eastbound on Hattertown Road.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Caruso received a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
Struck Utility Pole
Newtown Police report Ildefonso Garcia, 33, of Bridgeport, operating a 2021 Audi Q5, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 4:42 pm August 11. Garcia crossed the double yellow center line and entered the northbound traffic lane before striking a utility pole.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Garcia was issued an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.
Rear-Ended On Mt Pleasant
Newtown Police report Alfonso Amaturo, 67, of Southbury, operating a 2021 Ford F150, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road. He was traveling behind a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe operated by Shuang Zhang, 36, of Sandy Hook. While in the area of Tory Lane, Zhang stopped for traffic and the Ford rear-ended the Hyundai.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Amaturo was issued a written warning for following too close.
