Marjorie Kopsco
Marjorie Pennell Kopsco of Newtown passed away on August 2, 2024, after a brief illness.
She was born on June 18, 1942 in Bridgeport to Marie (Mae) N. Pennell and Edward S. Pennell. Raised in Fairfield, she graduated from Andrew Warde High School in 1960, where she played the alto saxophone in the marching band and graduated with honors.
She and her first husband moved to Reno, Nev., in the mid-1960s. She lived there until 1981, when she returned to Connecticut and moved to Newtown.
Marjorie was an office manager for various offices until she attained her Master of Science in Education from University of Bridgeport in 1995. She taught both Montessori in Brookfield and English as a Second Language in New Milford. She also worked in the before and after school program at Sandy Hook Elementary School prior to her retirement.
She and her husband Ken enjoyed boating in Westerly, R.I, out of the Avondale Boat Yard for over 20 years. She particularly enjoyed Little Narragansett Bay. They also loved spending time swimming in their backyard pool and entertaining friends and family there. Marjorie was an accomplished pianist, showcasing her talents as a church organist, teaching children to play piano, and playing her grand piano at home for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, nurturing plants both inside and outside her home. She truly had a gift.
She will be remembered for her keen sense of humor and infectious laugh, her beautiful smile, a tireless work ethic, and her pride in maintaining a beautiful home. Her lasting impression to all is that love and devotion to family make life worth living.
Marjorie is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Kenneth Kopsco of Newtown; daughters Lisa (Alan) Douville of Saint Joseph, Mich., Pamela Meister of Fallon, Nev., and Carol (Todd) Pessefall of Findlay, Ohio; stepsons Peter (Dawn) Kopsco of Montpelier, Vt., and David (Michele) Kopsco of Hamilton, N.J.; grandchildren Spencer, Jennifer, Anya, Elena, Jacob, Laura, Noah, Bram, Benjamin and Harrison; and two great-grandchildren Serenity and Jacob Jr. She is also survived by her first husband, William Meister of Lewes, Del., the father of her three daughters.
Her family thanks Marjorie’s long-term in-home caregivers, Shari and Jessica, who were so integral to her well-being, the staff of Church Hill Village in Newtown, and AccentCare Hospice for their kind and compassionate end-of-life care for her.
There was a vigil held by her family, and a private burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery and Arboretum in Fairfield (Oaklawnct.com). A celebration of life is being planned for family and friends in the near future.
