Reckless Driving
Police said they were using speed-detection radar on Hanover Road about 5 pm on August 12, when a motorist drove through the area going northward, traveling well above the posted speed limit and accelerating as he drove.
Police said they activated their lights and siren in attempting to stop the driver, but the driver continued to accelerate and recklessly passed two vehicles. After that occurred, police terminated their pursuit of the driver.
Several police then searched the general area for the vehicle, after which police located the unoccupied vehicle parked on Lafayette Trail. That road is a dead-end street extending off Tamarack Road.
Police said they learned the identity of the driver who shortly returned to that area.
Police said they arrested Daniel Tomascak, 18, of 13 The Old Road on charges of engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, and traveling too fast.
After arrest processing, police released Tomascak on $100 bail for an August 25 court appearance.
Hatchback Crash
Motorist Linda Williams, 65, of Kennesaw, Ga., was driving a 2011 Nissan Versa hatchback northward near 30 Hawleyville Road about 9:18 pm on August 5, when the vehicle veered off the right road shoulder and then struck a tree and fencing at the Shepaug Reload facility for the Housatonic Railroad, police said.
Williams was not injured. Police said they gave Williams a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Botsford Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident about 7:30 am on August 3 on South Main Street, near Botsford Lane.
Motorist Robert Carron, 48, of Trumbull was driving a 2007 Mazda Miata MX-5 roadster northward on South Main Street and then stopped for traffic conditions, police said.
Northbound motorist Frederick J. Pulaski, Jr, 53, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Mazda, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pulaski for following too closely.
SUV Vs SUV
About 5:43 pm on August 9, motorist Kimberlee Fischer, 44, of 56 Charter Ridge Drive was driving a 2007 Audi Q-7 SUV southward on Gelding Hill Road, as motorist Christian Gregoire, 18, of 7 Rockywood Drive was driving a 1996 Land Rover Discovery SUV northward there, police report.
The Audi crossed over the roadâs center line, colliding with the Land Rover, police report.
There were no injuries. Fischer received a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve, police said.
Sugar Street
Motorist Cheryl Johnson, 50, of Bridgewater was driving a 2003 Subaru Forester eastward near 55 Sugar Street about 7:37 pm on August 3, when the vehicle collided with a deer, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Intersection Accident
A two-car accident happened at the intersection of Route 34 and Toddy Hill Road about 10 pm on August 10, according to police.
Motorist Eric Jakobsen, 59, of Monroe, who was driving a 2011 Buick Regal sedan southward on Route 34, stopped at a red traffic signal, after which the Buick was struck from behind by a southbound 1997 Nissan Altima sedan driven by Chelsea Kretkowski, 18, of Bethel, police said.
Jakobsen was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for a pain complaint, police said. Kretkowski received an infraction on charges of following too closely and driving an unregistered vehicle, police said.
Cadillac Crash
At about 4:26 pm on August 10, motorist Michaela Brown, 25, of 19 Settlers Lane was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward near 134 South Main Street and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Subaru was struck from behind by southbound motorist Mike Pabon, 19, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1995 Cadillac Eldorado coupe, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pabon for following too closely.
Keys Found
On the morning of August 11, a resident turned over to police a set of keys which had been found on the section of Boggs Hill Road lying between Head Oâ Meadow School and Sugar Street, police said.
The set includes a Honda key, an Acura key, a spare key, and a remote control for an Acura. The owner may claim the keys by identifying them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
Moving Violations
Police said they received a report about 5:30 pm on August 14 concerning an erratic driver in the Berkshire Road area, so they went there to investigate.
Police said they located the vehicle in question near 51 Berkshire Road and investigated. Police said they charged motorist Alexander Rosado, 38, of Stratford with misuse of marker plates, driving without a license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
After processing, Rosado was released on $500 bail for an August 25 court appearance, police said.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant on him, Allen Heady, 59, of Bridgeport turned himself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of August 12, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving with a suspended license, and driving with an obstructed view.
Police said that Heady had failed to make a court appearance stemming from an incident last September 19 in which police had stopped him near the intersection of South Main Street and Elm Drive because an ornamental item within his vehicle was obstructing his view of the roadway.
After processing his case on August 12. police released Heady on $250 bail for an August 26 court appearance.
Restaurant Burglary
Late on the morning of August 13, police received a report that Tambascioâs Italian Grill, a restaurant at 1 Dodgingtown Road (Route 302), had been burglarized.
Police report that the burglar or burglars gained entry into the building through a window. Two cash boxes that were stolen in the incident both were later recovered in Redding, police said.
Police declined to provide other details about the incident. The detective unit is investigating. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the burglary to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Rollover
About 9:36 am on August 9, motorist Arianna Papaj, 17, of 5 Nighthawk Lane, who was driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, made a left turn from Nighthawk Lane onto eastbound Berkshire Road, but then veered to the right and struck some guardrailing, police said.
The Chrysler traveled atop the guardrail for a distance, but then fell off it and rolled down an embankment to the right, coming to rest on its wheels, police said. The vehicle struck multiple trees during the accident, police said.
Papaj was not injured. Police said they issued her a written warning for failure to maintain the proper lane.
Golf Cart
Police report that late on the afternoon of July 26, Antonio Abad, 67, of Southbury was driving a Club Car golf cart on the Newtown Country Club golf course off Brushy Hill Road, and while attempting to travel down a grassy hill, the golf cart rolled over.
Patricia Nevins, 54, of Danbury was a passenger in the golf cart, police said. Both people reported injuries in the accident, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported both people to the hospital.
Police said they took no enforcement. (A photo of the accident appeared in the July 29 edition of The Bee).
Dodgingtown Road
About 8:46 pm on August 13, motorist Aida Kiernan, 59, of 34 Scudder Road was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier sedan on Dodgingtown Road in Dodgingtown Center, when a deer ran onto the street in front of the auto, resulting in a collision, police said.
Kiernan was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
I-84 Crash
Motorist William Farm, 68, of Wallingford was driving a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz SUV westward on Interstate 84 about 12:51 am on August 13, and then got off the highway at the Exit 9 off-ramp, state police said.
The SUV, however, traveled up an embankment alongside the ramp a struck a tree, state police said.
Farm received minor cuts and was transported to the hospital to be checked, state police said.
Highway Collision
State police report that motorist Thomas Carmody, 50, of Burlington, who was driving a 1992 Volvo 940-GL eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 10, slowed for traffic conditions at about 6 pm on August 11, when the Volvo was struck from behind by motorist Jason Drahzal, 40, of Bethel, who was driving a 2009 Subaru Legacy.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Violations Issued
Police report that following a motor vehicle accident near 151 South Main Street at about 8:51 am on August 8, they investigated and charged motorist Brenden Underhill, 24, of Danbury with following too closely and driving with a suspended license.
Underhill was released on $500 bail for an August 23 court appearance, police said.
SUV Vs Sedan
Motorist Rosalinda Gudiel, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid sedan northward near 33 Mt Pleasant Road about 3:45 pm August 4, stopped to make a left turn and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Frantzy Desravines, 48, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2004 Nissan X-Terra SUV, police said.
Gudiel and a Dodge passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital, police said. Desravines failed to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.
Warrant
Police report that after he was informed that they held a warrant for his arrest, a Fairfield man went to the police station on the afternoon of August 15 and was charged.
Police said they arrested Leon J. Gaudett, 44, on a charge of driving under the influence in connection with a 1994 incident. The warrant had been issued by Danbury Superior Court, police said.
After processing, police released Gaudett on a written promise to appear in court on August 30.
Taunton Hill
Motorist Janet Alvarez Criollo, 17, of 5 Susan Lane, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry sedan westward near 53 Taunton Hill Road about 9:50 am on August 15, lost control of the auto, spun about, drove off the road and into a yard, damaging a stone wall and lawn, police said.
There were no injuries. The driver received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, police said.
Castle Meadow
Motorist Rachel Rode, 17, of 5 Crestwood Drive was driving a 2004 Ford Focus northward on Castle Meadow Road and approaching Brushy Hill Road at about 11 pm August 14, when while negotiating a curve, the auto went into a skid, went off the right road shoulder and then struck an embankment and a tree, police said.
Rode was not injured. Police said they issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Warrant
Newtown police report that after they learned that Brookfield police held a warrant for him, they arrested a man who was at a Church Hill Road business at about 1:30 pm on August 13.
Newtown police said they charged Mohamed Abdelkader, 22, of Danbury with second-degree failure to appear in court and with sixth-degree larceny in connection with a past Brookfield incident.
Abdelkader was released on $2,000 bail for an August 24 court appearance, police report.
Assault
Police said they responded to the parking lot of The Firehouse Bar & Restaurant at 75 Glen Road about 11:50 pm on August 12 after receiving a report of a fight in the lot.
Following an investigation, police said they charged Ryan Boucher, 21, of Bethel with third-degree assault and breach of peace.
Police released Boucher on a promise to appear on August 25 in Danbury Superior Court.
