And Friends

Joan Henry Griswold, 78, of Newtown, formerly of Danbury, died August 12. She was born in the Bronx, daughter of Josephine and Michael Henry.

She is survived by her sister Geraldine Gillen and husband William of Southbury and her brother Edward Henry and wife Dina of Danbury. “Aunt Joan” will be especially missed by her sister Gerry’s kids, Patty Gillen McQuail and Bernadette Addessi of Newtown, Kevin Gillen, Geraldine Gillen, Maureen Gillen-Brown, and Sheila Gillen Gross, as she had always been like a second mom to them. She was predeceased by her infant daughter Kathleen Griswold; her parents; and two siblings.

Ms Griswold was devoted to her family’s business, the Airport Service Station, in Danbury, where she worked as the office manager and bookkeeper from 1947 until 1972. After the family business closed, she went to work as an assembler at the Barden Corporation in Danbury, where she was employed for almost 20 years. Ms Griswold had been a longtime member of St Peter’s Church in Danbury.

Calling hours were scheduled at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, Thursday, August 18, from 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Peter Church, Friday, August 19, at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at St Peter Cemetery.
