DMV Promises To Reduce Wait Times

WETHERSFIELD (AP) — The head of Connecticut’s Department of Motor Vehicles says steps are being taken to reduce longer-than-expected wait times that cropped up after some DMV services were regionalized.

Last Friday, DMV started centralizing new drivers’ license testing and other services at branches in Wethersfield, Waterbury, Bridgeport, and Willimantic to cut costs and improve efficiency. The services had been offered at ten DMV branches.

But long lines developed Tuesday, particularly in the Wethersfield and Bridgeport offices.

DMV Commissioner Melody Currey said the agency is working with workers to get through the transition period as quickly as possible. She says DMV is aware of the inconvenience to people and wants them to know the agency is working to remedy the situation.

Extra workers were brought in Tuesday to help reduce the wait times.
