Newtownâs Caitlyn Linden and Megan Goyda received gold medals after they helped the Southwest Warriorsâ 12U basketball team win its division in the Nutmeg State Games in New Britain this past week. The Warriors won the gold for the second year in a row.
Newtownâs Maddy Keane and the U19 Connecticut Remix soccer team took the championship in its division. The Remix, comprised of players from Fairfield and New Haven Counties, defeated the New England Comets 2-0 in the finals. Emily Newhard opened the scoring late in the first half and Keane found the net when she cut the ball back to her right and let a blistering shot go from 40 yards out. The ball sailed into the upper left corner above the leaping outstretched hands of the Cometsâ keeper, dashing the hopes of the other side. Keane will play for the Newtown High School girlsâ team this fall.
