Treadwell Talent Shines At Annual Showcase For Campers

By John Voket

It was a showcase with something for everyone: dancing, singing, rapping, some guitar playing and…burping the alphabet! The Treadwell Day Camp wrapped up its season last week with an all-star talent show that featured a few of the camp’s staff members and more than a dozen campers performing solo or in ensemble fashion.

According to camp director Victoria Dinielli, many of the participants were crafting their performances for hours in the days and weeks leading up to the 40-minute event which was held August 10 under the pavilion at Treadwell Park.

On that steamy afternoon several of the performers sang along to a variety of songs played over a makeshift PA system, while others chose to break dance, line dance, or even waltz along to popular songs like “Bust A Move.”

A hush fell over the crowd of nearly 100 as one of the entertainers took the microphone and belched his way from A to Z, much to the enjoyment of fellow campers and visitors alike.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Barbara Kasbarian, the day camp population numbers swelled considerably as the summer wore on.

“The entire season of day camp numbers increased at about the level that we saw last year,” Ms Kasbarian said this week.

She said the sports specialty camps remained the most popular and were 90 percent filled throughout the season.
