The Victor Coopersmith Cup tennis tournament, sponsored by the Newtown Tennis Association and the Richard Coopersmith family, will begin on Monday, August 22, at Dickinson Park. Registrations will be taken until Saturday, August 20.

The tournament is open to all girls and boys and age groups will be determined by their ages as of August 22, 2005.

Divisions will be 10-and-under, 14-and-under, and 18-and-under. Round Robin matches for the 10-and-under group will be held August 22 at 1 pm; matches for the 14-and-under group will be August 23 at 1 pm; and matches for the 18-and-under group will be August 24 at 2 pm.

Rain dates will be August 25 and 26. Please note that the schedule has been altered from the original announcement.

Final round matches will take place Sunday, September 4, at Dickinson Park.  Players will be advised of the match schedule and in case of rain, play will be moved indoors. To enter, you must be a resident of Newtown and your check must accompany the entry form.

Stroock Tournament Signups Extended

Registrations are opening now for the 2005 Bertram Stroock Memorial Tennis Tournament, presented by the Newtown Tennis Association and will remain open until Saturday, August 20.

To enter, you must be a current resident of Newtown and a check must accompany your entry form (which can be downloaded at www.ntaweb.com).

Players will arrange their own matches through August but semi-final and championship matches will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 3 and 4, at Dickinson Park.

Events will include Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Singles, Men’s 55 Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. If entries are sufficient, there will be consolation rounds for those players who lose their first matches.

Drawsheets and tournament guidelines will be sent to all registered players.

Fees are $10 for one event, $15 for two events and $20 for three events.
