Patriotic Bracelets Help Wounded Veterans

QUINCY, MASS. — Through the generosity of their customers, Stop & Shop and Giant food stores have so far raised more than $700,000 to aid wounded veterans who served in the War on Terror.

In a little over a month, customers at Stop & Shop and Giant food stores have purchased more than 350,000 “Hero Bands,” wristbands emblazoned with an American Flag motif. Costing $2 each, the bands promote awareness of American soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. All of the proceeds from Hero Band sales will go to the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, a nonprofit organization providing aid to severely wounded veterans. Funds will aid veterans in the states where Stop & Shop and Giant operate.

Hero Bands are still available at all Stop & Shop and Giant food stores. The donations collected will provide disability-adapted homes for war heroes, emergency financial aid, family support services, job training and placement services, and annual recovery conferences. Hero Bands can also be purchased at the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes website, www.saluteheroes.org.
