Evening Vacation Bible School Features Safari Theme
âSafari Adventureâ was the theme of the annual Summer Evening Vacation Bible School (SEVBS) held recently at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Mt Pleasant Road.
The evening hour has been chosen by the Education Committee of the congregation so that family members are able to enjoy the Vacation Bible School time together. For this yearâs SEVBS the church Fellowship Hall took on the look of a Safari camp. Songs that underscored the theme of âfinding Jesus the Kingâ were taught each evening by Kelly Burger, a music instructor from the New Fairfield school system.
Directing the Bible School was Rebecca Cicarelli, who presented each eveningâs theme and Bible story. Individual grade-level classes were taught by volunteers from the parish and every evening included a craft time, coordinated by Alison Rogers.
It is a tradition that each yearâs SEVBS begin with a barbecue. The weather for this yearâs opening meal together on Sunday, August 7, was picture perfect. Parent and children together enjoyed sharing the âjungle camp foodâ at tables set outdoors on the church grounds.
At the closing ceremony on August 11, awards were presented to the children who participated and to the staff as well. During the Vacation Bible School, funds were gathered to send to a Lutheran Orphanâs Hospital in Kenya and a special collection of âsummer needs itemsâ was gathered for the nationâs military troops stationed overseas.
The next event sponsored by the Education Committee at Christ the King will be the âOpening of Sunday School Celebrationâ at 9 am on Sunday, September 11.
