DANBURY — Danbury Hospital announced this week that the 2005-2006 schedule of medical town meetings, a series of free community health and wellness lectures, begins Tuesday, September 13, at 7 pm with a prostate cancer education program.

“Living With Prostate Cancer — Exploring Medical & Surgical Treatments and Side Effects” will be presented from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Danbury Hospital John C. Creasy Center for Health Education auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue.

A board-certified urologist and physician member of the hospital’s Urological Cancer Tumor Board will discuss the current medical and surgical advances in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and possible treatment side effects, including urinary incontinence, impotence issues, and other related topics.

A second medical town meeting addressing “What’s New in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Arthritis & Systemic Lupus in the Community” will take place on Thursday, September 29, from 7 to 8:30 pm at Danbury Hospital’s auditorium.

Rheumatologists Alla Rudinskaya, MD, and Kenneth Miller, MD, will discuss new treatments for arthritis, and the diagnosis and management of systemic lupus.

The medical town meeting program series also features program presentations on computer-assisted, minimally invasive orthopedic surgical procedures for knee and hip replacements, sports medicine, medical issues and aging, new treatment options for couples struggling with infertility, cosmetic surgery, nutrition and exercise for weight loss, asthma, as well as heart disease, breast, lung, and skin cancer.

Hospital-sponsored medical town meetings are conducted from 7 to 8:30 pm in the John C. Creasy Center for Health Education auditorium at the hospital. Park free in the Blue Visitors Parking Lot, Hospital Avenue entrance. The community health education series and other special events are advertised in mailings and print media advertisements with more comprehensive information regarding program details.

In addition to announcing what community health education topics will be presented at medical town meetings, the Danbury Hospital Health Calendar also features information about other co-sponsored community events and monthly support group meetings such as the biweekly breast cancer education classes that take place on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the Ruth C.
