Bridgewater Fair Is Aug. 19-21

BRIDGEWATER — The 54th Bridgewater Country Fair will return to the fairgrounds on Route 133 the weekend of August 19–21. The fair will run on Friday from 4 to 11 pm; Saturday from 8 am to 11 pm; and Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm.

Admission is $8 for adults ($5 for senior citizens on Saturday and Sunday), and free for children under 12. Weekend passes, at $16 each, are available at Bridgewater Village Store on Route 133 and Mobil Convenience Store, on Route 67 at Route 133. Parking is free.

Please note, pets are not allowed in the fairgrounds.

At 6:45 pm on Friday the Bridgewater Country Fair officially starts with the Firemen’s Parade. Returning to lead off the parade will be Governor L. Jodi Rell.

Among the highlights of this year’s entertainment will be The Star Family Circus and Thrill Show, with their juggling, motorcycles and talented animals, on Friday at 5 and 8 pm; Saturday at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 pm; and Sunday at noon, 2:30 and 4:30 pm.

Northern Star Karate demonstrations on the bandstand on Friday at 5 pm; and Saturday at 1:30 pm; and Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, Inc, returning for the third year, on Friday at 9 pm; and Saturday at 11 am and 1 and 3 pm.

Tractor Mac returns to the fair this year. Roxbury resident Billy Steers returns to personalize his latest Tractor Mac story on Saturday and Sunday, next to his restored Farmall tractor, “Tractor Mac.” Mr Steers will team up again with Lisa Buckley, Roxy the Cow, and an assortment of farmyard characters at their barnyard puppet stage for picture drawing and storytelling from programs on Saturday and Sunday at 11 am and 1 pm.

The Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) Raffle is a major source of income during the Bridgewater Fair. Twenty thousand tickets have been printed, and must be accounted for, rolled and banded, and put into the ticket bin. At least 40 volunteers will sell and roll tickets prior to and during the fair. All of the prizes are purchased by the BVFD.

The prizes this year are first prize: 2005 V-6 Jeep Liberty; second prize: LT160 16 hp John Deere lawn tractor; third prize: 32-inch plasma TV; fourth prize: two Navigator 200 bicycles; fifth prize: Off-Road 4x4 12/V ride-on Jeep; and sixth prize: an iPod.

Raffle tickets are $5 each and are already being sold at Bridgewater Plaza Convenience Store on Route 67, and Bridgewater Village Store on Route 133. Tickets may also be purchased from any BVFD or Women’s Auxiliary member.

The drawing will take place Monday, August 22 at 6 pm, at the Bridgewater Firehouse raffle tent. Winner need not be present to win. For further information contact Bill Stuart at 860-355-0012.

All weekend the fair will offer a vegetable, fruit and flower show, art and photo exhibits, cattle and poultry displays, wool exhibits, market lamb classes, industrial and agricultural exhibits, kiddie rides and carnival rides, amusements, commercial tents and local vendors, and food and refreshment stands.
